The opening scene. One small space craft is chased by a large one.

Princess Leia tells Darth Vader she does not know where the Death Star Plans are.

C3PO and R2D2 are stranded on a desert planet, called Tatooween, when they escape the rebel space ship. They then are captured by Jawas to be sold later.

The Jawas sell C3PO and R2D2 to Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen, and Uncle Owen asks Luke to clean up the droids.

When cleaning up the droids Luke finds a hidden holo-recording of the princess Leia saying, "Help me Obi-Wan Kinobe, you're my only hope."

Luke finds Old Ben, also known as Obi-Wan Kinobe, and he says that he hasen't been called that name for a very long time. Obi-Wan gives Luke his Father's lightsaber after they meet, and he goes with Luke to Mos Eisle Spaceport to find a ride off the planet to go find princess Leia.

Obi-Wan uses a Jedi mind trick to make the gaurds looking for R2D2 and C3PO say that, "These are not the droids you are looking for."

Luke and Obi-Wan find a piolet, Han Solo, a smuggler who just shot the bounty huner Gredo who was after him.

Obi-Wan and Luke take off in Han Solo's ship, The Milenium Falcon, and head for the planet Alderan that has been blown up by the Imperials. They fly away as they are being attacked by Imperial Stormtroopers for having C3PO and R2D2 onboard.

Meanwhile, the Death Star super weapon is tested by the Galactic Empire, and they blow up Princess Leia's home planet of Alderan.

While on the way to Alderan C3PO and Han Solo's good friend Chewbacca, an alien of the Wookie race, play a version of space checkers.

When Han, Obi-Wan, and Luke; arrive at the coordinates where Alderan should be they find something that they at first think is a moon, but soon realize is the imperial battle station known as the Death Star, that had just blown up Alderan. They get caught in the Death Star's tractor beam and are forced to land inside the Death Star and be searched.

When the stormtroopers board the Milenium Falcon Han and Luke shoot them, and then walk out in their armor, disguised as stormtroopers and start to search for the Princess Leia who is prisoner on board.

They break into a communications room, and take it over. C3PO and R2D2 are left in the communications room to guide them with the map of the Death Star they have. This is where Luke and Han split up from Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan goes to find Darth Vader, and Luke and Han go to find the princess.

Luke opens the prison cell door and finds the princess asleep, and gets her up. The Imperials realize something is up in the prison block and send troops to investigate.

To run from the fire fight they get in they jump down the trash chute and end up in a large trash compactor where a trash monster lives. They almost get crushed in the trash compactor, but at the last minute get saved by R2D2 who uses the controls in the communications room to stop the trash compactor. Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca all exit the trash compactor and make their way to the Milenium Falcon.

Obi-Wan finds Darth Vader and they have a duel with their lightsabers where Darth Vader Kills Obi-Wan. Luke sees Darth Vader do this as he gets onto the Milenium Falcon, and the rest of them must leave without Obi-Wan who is dead.

With Princess Leia in tow, they head to the secret Rebel Base on the moon of a large gass giant planet called Yavin 4. Here they deliver the Death Star plans to the rebels, and then realize that the Milenium Falcon was tracked back to Yavin 4 by the Death Star, and the Death Star had followed them. Using the plans of the Death Star the rebels devise a plan to take it down by sending starfighters to shoot proton torpedoes into a thermal exhaust port that goes straight to the main reactor, where it will cause the battle station to blow up. The starfighter piolets are briefed and then leave to get in their figters. The Death Star is only minutes away from being within firing distance to the rebel base on Yavin 4, and they need to work fast.

As Luke gets into his starfighter, the T-65 X-Wing, Han wishes Luke good luck by saying, "May the Force be with you."

Luke Prepares to enter the trench on the Death Star's equator where he will approach the thremal exhaust port.

Shortly after he enters the trench with his two wing men he is followed by Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced starfighter who shoots down both his wingmen. Luke is the only one left, and he hears a voice in his head saying, "turn off your targeting computer Luke. Use the Force." Luke listens, and successfuly shoots his two proton torpedoes into the exhaust port, and Darth Vader is thrown off his tail.

The Death Star Blows up as Luke and Han escape, saving the rebel base on Yavin 4.

Han and Luke are then given medals to comemorate the help they gave to the rebelion in its darkest hour.
